The Inner Light Within Kids Can Make Amazing Things
The recent video from the Plant a Seed & See What Grows Foundation”s “Inspiring Minds, Inspiring Finds” series (view them all here) not only tells a motivational story about yet another wonderkid, it includes a passage that deserves its own exploration:
“If you are alive, you produce some light” (Ann Makosinski)
Ann’s insightful quote holds two different meanings. At a literal level, it draws a direct line between the body’s innate capacity to produce energy and how this can be used to generate light. That is something which budding inventors will really get excited about. On the other side of the spectrum, is the ethereal meaning. Below is look at how the latter and the essence of the former can come together to help your child create something amazing that may change the world.
The Natural Light That Kids Are Made Of
The most poignant part of Ann’s quote and her story is the underlying theme. The theme is how we as people, particularly children, have a light within that if allowed to shine can manifest as something incredible, something that can be of service to others to help their own proverbial lights illuminate.
The challenge, is bringing this light to the forefront in a world that is filled with obstacles that seek to dim its glow. How can a parent and guardian foster an environment that is conducive to a positive go get ‘em attitude? The following steps will assist in this worthy cause:
- Have them practice daily positive affirmations
- Alter their social networking algorithm to only feature positive content
- Teach them to react to sudden challenges in a calm, calculated, and productive manner
- Teach and help them eat nutrients that are known to promote positive emotions, feelings, and behaviors
- Spend more time with them outdoors
- Lead by example
For further insight into these steps, please read “How to Teach Kids to be Positive“.
Outfitted with an enduring positive outlook your child will be free to innovate and create something that will positively reverberate into the lives of those in need.
Ideas Are Living Things
“People don’t have ideas. Ideas have people” (Carl Jung)
Children are constantly imagining and thinking of new ideas. Some are of particular interest to a child, and when such an idea emerges they become emotionally invested in the outcome. This leads us to a field of thought that proposes that human thoughts and ideas should be seen as living organisms that are waiting to blossom. These ideas live in a world of their own, inhabit us, and cause us to do things, just like the microbiomes in our bodies. They take a strong hold in people whose minds are fertile to nurture and bring them to life. There is no mind quite as fertile as that of a child. Ann Makosinski’s story above and those of every other child in our Inspiring Minds, Inspiring Finds series reflect exactly that.
Even if you find the concept fanciful, communicate it to your child. They will love the theory that an idea that came to them is a living thing. Further, they will consider it like a seed that requires nurturing and care to transform from a thought to an innovation that may change the lives of one person…or an entire village.
