We love seeds because they represent life, our future and our potential. Without seeds there would be no food, no food means, no life. It is as essential and as simple as that. Because seeds are all encompassing as life itself, <a href=\"https:\/\/seewhatgrows.org\/us\/really-care-seed-preservation\/\">we should really all care about seed preservation<\/a>.\u00a0Or perhaps try to be a part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2016\/01\/23\/saving-seeds-movement.aspx\">growing global movement to save seeds<\/a>. Or how about\u00a0seriously considering simple ways how we can be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usc-canada.org\/i-am-a-seed-saver\/item\/217-be-a-seed-saver\">seed saver in our everyday life<\/a>? No matter what step you take, each small action helps gets us closer to creating a healthier and inter-connected generation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How are we promoting seeds anyway?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We promoted seeds through educational seed classes to young minds in our neighbourhood. In collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/sproutingchefs.com\/\">Sprouting Chefs Society<\/a>,\u00a0Barb McMahon, founder of the Society facilitated the seed classes. 806 students in <a href=\"http:\/\/forestgrove.sd41.bc.ca\/\">Forest Grove<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/windsor.sd41.bc.ca\/\">Windsor<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/lochdale.sd41.bc.ca\/\">Lochdale Elementary<\/a> schools learned how to plant seeds \u00a0using organic growing principles. Students discovered the role of worms. They now know how to gather castings. They also\u00a0learned about\u00a0the importance of crop rotations. Students were eager to demonstrate their science-enriched vocabulary with accurate word usages such as pests and decomposers. Windsor elementary grade one students were particularly enthusiastic to share their knowledge of bugs in the garden. Now more aware of their natural environment,\u00a0students <strong>understood how seasonal weather affects the availability and price of food<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, what was really exciting to hear from teachers and principals was that <strong>students continued visiting the garden during their breaks<\/strong>. Some wanted to do more weeding to protect the garden plants. We helped nurtured a<strong>\u00a0sense of responsibility and aspiration.<\/strong>\u00a0Through partnership and education, we <strong>empowered young minds to the life-long benefits of<\/strong> <strong>growing food and healthy eating.
